Bus 52 Route
Paulette Williams MY sister Evelyn Williams and I drove Bus 52, she in the later 60's and I drove in the early 70's. The route ran from Tom Hill Rd ( Route 2, Faison,,to 117, go toward Bowden, turn right on the road where Tommy Wilson 's house is or was and go past where James Coley's family lived,to where Wayne and Johnny Lewis lived close to Bowden, then to Judy and Tim Warren's home and then back left on the road which led to the Produce Market where Micheal and Angela Stancil lived. I could drive the route now,but can not recall the name of all the roads. This was the route for Bus 52 in the late 60's. When I drove in the early 70's the route was for the elementary school P. W. Moore. The route went from where I lived on Tom Hill Rd to 117 to the other side of Hi 50 where Lewis's Garage was and I picked up a young Lewis boy, to where the Bradshaw's lived.Jodie and Pam Bass, Ken Davis and a number of other students lived.I vividly remember sliding in the ditch on the Bradshaw road on a rainy day and the road drag which scrapped the road pulled me out of the ditch
Bus 28 Route
Mariana Sanderson Yes, Daddy grew up there. My grandmother, Bertha McCullen, taught at Piney Grove. Bus 28 route overlapped with the Piney Grove bus route at some points. Our route went by Bill Lewis's on Hwy 50, down the dirt road that Gwen Hines and Katherine Bradshaw lived on, back by Emmett Jackson's, down the Hobbs Rd., up what is now Elton Thornton Rd., to pick up the Honrines(Hobbs), and Judy Hobgood. (Judy Hobgood lived in the house Elton and Jane live in now.), down the lane at the Ireland home to pick up Caroline and out the other lane onto Hwy. 403. I'm sure I left out some of the route, but this shows some of the weaving in and out of Sampson and Duplin counties. Hwy 50 was paved, 403 was paved and I think the road by Emmett Jackson's was. The rest of my route in 1961-62 consisted of dirt roads.
