Museum Collections

Museum collections include, photo albums, scrap books, old papers, diaries, and letters, maps, old school books from the 1800’s, photo images, paintings and portraits, and historical artifacts. These items are contained within the Faison Museum and in various public and private collections that can be viewed by appointment. The goal is to make as many of these collections, as practical, accessible at FaisonDepot.com. Various”Collections” are included for online viewing and research throughout this website under menu items, “Faison Museum”, “History & Genealogy”, “1860’s-1960’s”, and “Our Veterans”

An ongoing project (since January 2015) is to digitize as many of these collections, as practical, and include on this website, at FaisonDepot.c

Much of Faison’s history resides in repositories other than the Faison Museum. For example, the papers of Astronaut William Thornton were donated to the State of North Carolina Archives, many of the 500 paintings and portraits by artist, Mary Lyde Hicks Williams, are located in the North Carolina Art Museum. the Duplin County Courthouse, and across the USA. The Dr. John M. Faison’s collection is located at East Carolina University, A 2016 initiative is to identify the location of the various collections of Faison history and those collections that have been digitize and provide links from FaisonDepot.com to facilitate online access and research.

Note: Certain of the below listed “Private Collections” are intended to be “donated” or “loaned” to the Faison Museum, pending completion of the above referenced security upgrades to the Faison Museum.

The below table, which is currently under development, is intended to contain a listing of all of the Museum Collections and the items within each collection and other information as indicated in the table. As part of the development of this table, the Faison Museum Committee will be investigating “best practices” used by other museums and repositories.
